What health issues were present in Ancient Egypt?
Health issues were quite common in ancient Egypt. Many of them would arise due to wading through water; water in ancient Egypt was not very clean it contained many parasites. When people had scabs and open wounds one of the worst issues would be when a parasite called the Schistosoma Worm would enter the body. These worms were absolutely terrible, as they would enter through the feet and legs and lay eggs in ones bloodstream. Another one of the big health issues is when people were not able to consume adequate amounts of foods mainly things like fruits and vegetables. People would suffer, as not nearly enough amounts of nutrition would enter the body and results from body’s dug up from tombs have shown that a majority of people suffered from nutritional deficiencies. Although it was a long time ago ancient Egyptians suffered from the everyday sicknesses that we all suffer from in a modern day society. Many of tomb stone builders did suffer from headaches. Most likely from working in the desserts blaring heat for a large majority of their week. Pneumonia was common in people from the amounts of sand that was inhaled, they didn’t have sufficient coverage over the mouth causing sand to enter the body and affect the lungs. Eye irritations and infections were also from the sand, many sand particles that entered the eyes caused irritations and sometimes infections.
