The roles of an Ancient Egyptian priest
The role of a priest was considered really important in an Egyptian society. One of the most important roles was to care for all needs of the gods/goddesses. This job came with great dedication, the priests had to shave their heads to ensure sufficient cleanliness wile visiting the gods. While caring for the Gods the priest will recite prayers, offer the gods clean clothing, new jewelry, they will wash the statue and place fresh food and drinks. It was also the role to sing Egyptian hymns and offer more prayers to the gods before leaving. Once the priest was finished he would need to sweep away any and all footprints that he has made and leave. This area for worshipping gods was only open to the priest or the pharaoh.
All the Egyptians believed that if the needs for the gods were not met then problems would arise; this is because they believed that the gods controlled the town they lived in and if they were not cared for bad luck would arise. |
